Although your artwork does not require any explanation yet I am unable to hold myself to appreciate the depth which is always shown in your work. Shivangi made me a nameplate with floral work. I made 45 mini paintings for a therapist in private practice.
here's the story about my most cherished collaboration (swipe to read).

I AM SO PROUD OF THIS BODY OF WORK.
as an artist, I want my art to be able to move & shift something in people. as a therapist, I know how valuable and impactful the right words feel like to a reader when going through a rough time.

THIS HAS BEEN MY MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSONALIZED PROJECT, so much so, that I may never really know the true impact of my art & my words when experienced side-by-side. this is the first time I chose to release them together, feeling afraid, nervous and jittery. I won't ever know my collectors who find these 45 mini paintings + my poetry. I can't help but see how beautiful it feels to hold this "unknown" experience.

about my (unreleased) words:
I have two collections of poems and quotes - birthed in 2022, and in 2023. however, I felt very afraid of putting them out into the world. I was not able to talk about them. I kept them hidden, and spent time with them often by myself. both these collections were created during very uncertain and severely painful times in my life. creating them helped me keep my head above the water and find a way to hold onto hope, even though I didn't see it or feel it.

after including them in this commissioned project, I am feeling slightly comfortable with releasing them into the world.

in part 3 of the behind the scenes, you see me create a collection of 16 miniature loose watercolor landscapes in a span of a single day, actually just a few hours.

I was hesitant at first to show this process video, because it is shot at night under my yellow light lamp + it's not aesthetic enough + the water is reflecting back and it's harder to see the colors clearly + it isn't beautiful to watch or isn't "perfect" for social media aesthetics.

And then I paused, took a step back and reflected on why it's important for me to share this process. It's to show my audience the rawness & realness of the creative process. Sometimes that takes place in near perfect, good enough scenes, and sometimes it takes place deep into the night silences.

Both are beautiful, as both are spaces created for the heart work to come alive.

I tried to use some inspiration from photographs for this collection, however, I ended up ignoring that and just flowed with my paintbrush. I came to notice I didn't really need to be "inspired".

I only needed to find a way to stay with what's coming alive with my brush.

My first market of 2025 & my last market in Halifax.

It was a very slow Sunday for me. 5 hours and less than 5 people stopped at my table. I made one sale at this market. I felt quite disappointed at the turnout and it wasn't easy to just wait for most of the market hoping for people to stop and see my work.

Despite being such a big market happening in a mall, it surprises me how some markets turn out exactly the opposite of what I hope they'll be. It really helped having @nrajat and @paras.kumarr there towards the end of the market.

The people who did stop by and browsed my work had the sweetest things to say about my art. I felt touched and moved that they connected with my paintings.

I applied to be part of many markets between January and March, but I got into none this time. It has been very hard. And I kept thinking, at the end of the day, we get what is ours and we find space in places which are meant for us. This somewhere gave hope to the disappointment I have been carrying and made me feel better.

The seasons are changing, and so are my rhythms. I can feel a shift coming in. I can feel the spring springing in my body, as the uncertainty looms over me. It's a gift and a split to be able to feel and carry such polar feelings within me. And yet, they both exist. They both are alive and very much present.

My Art may be shifting too. I'm excited to find out. Are you excited for me?

"your paintings look like british columbia" 🏞️🌲🌄

a lot of people who met me in art markets last year, told me this. some even bought my art because of this reason. so, earlier this month, when I finally got a chance to visit BC, I did something I have never done before.

I took a small risk, because I wanted to leave a physical mark on the landscape of BC. it was a thankyou of some sorts, since I had been painting this landscape for the past 5 years already. a voice inside told me this would become a significant memory.

I selected nine paintings and left them all around BC and vancouver. just left them in places that met me, for people to find, for strangers to find some beauty as they moved through their day .. just like that. I left the paintings in many places. I was able to take a photo of all before leaving them, except one, which I had to drop and run so no one comes to give it back to me. that one was my most favourite painting. there's a story with that painting. I will share with you soon :)

two people got in touch with me and shared they found my art.
did rest of the seven paintings find people, or did they pass away? got damaged? are still in hiding? maybe someone threw/tore them? I do not know. I may find out later, it would be wonderful to know their fate. if I never find out, and people never find them, I will hold the loss of never knowing. and that's okay :)

doing this exercise gave me an exciting, stirring feeling all over my body. it gave me a significant memory of meeting my paintings in person through the landscape of british columbia, and I am so so grateful for that! I hope to meet it again one day, to touch the landscape one more time, and to feel it's beauty running through me again.

This collection was birthed in January 2023, just as I was leaving Bangalore (my home and my heart), and was on my way to Halifax.

My first home was dismantled, my furniture was getting sold, my studio was in boxes, and my heart & soul were a mess.

I had never lived outside India, my home country. This was going to be my first time living abroad, and I was having BIG feelings about it.

BIG CHANGES are never easy for me, and first times are particularly harder. Between all the packing & moving, I decided to give myself a project - that I will paint 20 minutes a day, no matter what's happening around me. I decided to paint my way through this BIG CHANGE in my life.

I am so thankful I did that, because not only did this project take my mind off of everything for 20 minutes a day, it felt more important to stay dedicated to it than my move.

My Art has been a supportive cushion for me, when I have dealt with uncertainty and the unknown in my personal life over and over again.

It allows me to feel POWERFUL to create, especially when things are uncomfortable.

My fuel for this collection was to find a way to stay committed to my relationship with my art & creativity, despite experiencing the daily demands of every day life.

✨ Inspiration — “POCKETS OF PLAY”✨

a collection of watercolor landscapes birthed amidst big life changes — releasing on 20 February, 2025

as an Artist, sometimes, I create my own inspiration. for me, that means looking within, in the present moment.. & creating instinctively.

that’s the real inspiration behind this collection - paying attention to what arrives in the here & now.

my fuel for this collection was to find a way to stay committed

to my relationship with my art & creativity, despite experiencing the daily demands of everyday life.

this collection was birthed in january 2023, just as I was leaving Bangalore, and was on my way to Halifax.

I decided to give myself a project - that I will paint twenty minutes a day, through this BIG CHANGE in my life.

looking back, I am glad I did that, because not only did daily painting take my mind off of everything for 20 minutes a day, it allowed me to feel safe as I experienced uncertainty about life outside India.

each painting is a simplistic, yet moving watercolor landscape. each piece has a number & the date of birth on the back, indicating the day that it was created.

all originals also include my signature on the front & back, along with my studio stamp signally the authenticity of my handmade art.

a bittersweet feeling overcomes me as I look at this collection and all the pieces together, two years after their conception.

This collection was birthed in January 2023, just as I was leaving Bangalore (my home and my heart), and was on my way to Halifax.

My first home was dismantled, my furniture was getting sold, my studio was in boxes, and my heart & soul were a mess.

I had never lived outside India, my home country. This was going to be my first time living abroad, and I was having BIG feelings about it.

BIG CHANGES are never easy for me, and first times are particularly harder. Between all the packing & moving, I decided to give myself a project - that I will paint 20 minutes a day, no matter what's happening around me. I decided to paint my way through this BIG CHANGE in my life.

I am so thankful I did that, because not only did this project take my mind off of everything for 20 minutes a day, it felt more important to stay dedicated to it than my move.

My Art has been a supportive cushion for me, when I have dealt with uncertainty and the unknown in my personal life over and over again.

It allows me to feel POWERFUL to create, especially when things are uncomfortable.

My fuel for this collection was to find a way to stay committed to my relationship with my art & creativity, despite experiencing the daily demands of every day life.

🔵 SOLD. Fiona x Shivangi Verma Studio - First Commission of 2025!

This is also my last order for 2024, and has turned out to be such a happy indulgence into my creative process.

I turned a personal photograph of the Collector into a forever painting as they hold a special memory of this place.

This painting took me 8 days to complete - from making a few samples images, to sketching the final artwork and eventually painting it in multiple layers of watercolors.

I truly enjoyed painting this, as it was challenging — the photograph provided by the Collector only gave me a basic outline. The sky, the rocks, and the moon were created while we conversed about how they wanted the overall look and feel of the painting.

What I truly appreciate is the faith and trust this Collector put in me when I suggested some particular things to make the painting look its best self. I feel truly grateful when I'm listened to, and together we are able to bring alive a painting that ends up being very special to both the Collector and me, the Artist.

2024 x Shivangi Verma Studio.

Today, I'm sharing with you a list that I maintained throughout the year in my Notes App. Whenever something happened or someone said something to me that felt important or moved me, but I didn't know what to do about it at the time, I added it to the list.

As the year passed, I kept adding moments to it. I kept adding feelings to it. A sensitive person like me has felt A LOT this year.

I run my studio by myself, and sometimes I fantasize talking about these mini moments with someone. Sometimes they happen too fast, sometimes they have brushed past my skin and I was lucky to have felt them in time.

They are super random, and mundane, and they all have heart.
They have a pulse, life beating in them. My life.

They have felt so important as I have spent the last week reading them together.

I'm also getting a vulnerability hangover right about now. Time to go breathe.

This is the glimpse of the human behind the Shivangi Verma Studio.

This post is for my partner, Rajat.

An artist with the camera himself, he is shy to show his own artwork to the world. He's my main photographer when I'm tired of taking photos of my work, which has been a lot this year. He steps in when I feel done. He fills in all the gaps when I have had no energy to move a muscle. He doesn't like this kind of attention, and is too down to earth to admit to his role in the smooth running of my studio.

Tell me honestly, which one do you love moreee?

My market on Friday last week was a tiring, long market day. It was my longest market to date - 8 hours long!

While I spent the day mostly by myself, I was taken care of throughout the day. @nrajat and @popular_streams carried all the materials to the market and helped me set up before time. @himanshi22pandey sent warm lunch (kadhi chawal with the essence of curry leaves in the air reminded me of Bangalore instantly) so that I am fed properly. And @paras.kumarr came to entertain me and listen to my print shop shutting down & other art related woes in the evening. I was also super delighted to meet @inloveandlightchakra again to give her the beautiful print she selected for her mom :')

I had a good, exhausting day. The kind of day that made me feel I did something of value. I met people who have been following my work for some time. I met people who were kind enough to share with me how they connected with my work. I heard stories of the places that people got reminded of seeing my art. Someone called me "versatile". And I made a few sales. I'm grateful for each of these experiences, as they add meaning to my artist's journey in different ways. A heartwarming thank you to everyone who stopped by my table and gave me a moment of your time!

Sketchbook Tour!

This sketchbook has been about following my creative flow and seeing where it takes me. I started this sketchbook wanting to build trust in myself as a painter and this need in me to create more magic with my hands.

This sketchbook is also the biggest sketchbook I have created in. So a lot of these pages carry my fear of taking up space in the world and sometimes in my own life.

In the process of taking up space on these pages, somewhere I was able to play around with this fear and turn it into art. I'm not sure where I go from here, but the wildly expressive nature of the paintings here, liberated me as I created them.

All paintings in this sketchbook also mention the artist whose photograph has inspired the painting.

Day 2 at THE BEST MARKET I have had to date! 🥳😍🥲😌

I attended my second Christmas Market this past weekend and my god, it was a weekend full of action, surprises & connection! Remembering how my first Christmas market went last weekend, honestly, I was hoping to just survive this market without crying. I was a little afraid to step out & be out there as I just didn't have it in me to go through another hard day. Turns out, I did cry, only they were tears of joy. 🥲🥹

I have the biggest humbling feeling in my heart as I am writing this. This weekend was so full of connection, surprises, and beautiful conversations. My Art found the best people, and the best Collectors in very unexpected ways! The sweetest people paused at my table, struck up conversations, showed curiosity and asked me some very serious things about my art. The collectors I was waiting for in last week's market, found me & my art at this market. 🫂

Part 3/3: Surprising a Collector with their favourite flowers 💐

Let's pack a very special order. One of my Northern lights originals was purchased by a collector. I was so happy when this painting got adopted because it's been in my shop for 2 whole years. That's how long it took for it to find the right owner.

I found out that this is going to be the first piece of original art owned by the collector so in order to make their order more special I am including a custom painting of their favourite flowers, which is forget me nots. The floral piece includes the word 'Home' in it as I want the collector to feel comforted when they see these two paintings.

This part of running my Studio excites me, where I imagine how a collector may feel and respond when they see the paintings in front of them. Some more originals in my shop are waiting to be seen. Don't forget to check out my website. Link in my Bio.

I went to my first Christmas Market yesterday. There were SO MANY beautiful vendors and people at the market. So many. Such a crowd. All kinds of people. It was definitely a "vibe" to be at a Christmas event for the first time outside India. I have never seen people walk away with multiple bags of gifts & purchases before in Halifax, but I saw that repeatedly at the market. It made me feel hopeful about the market for myself and really got me so so excited for this first event of the Christmas season.

Compliments about my work were INSANE! My ears genuinely felt a overwhelmed (tired) of hearing "oh so pretty!", "beautiful work", "gorgeous". I couldn't believe someone complimented the little stands I used to display my art. I have to admit, I was hoping for things to move forward post the compliments. I was hoping for someone to take the leap and grab a piece of art and make it theirs. I was hoping that after picking up the items on my table, going"wow!" at them, and asking me how I made my landscapes and my florals, they would be bought too. This time at the market, I had products for as little as $3 to $65 -Bookmarks, Magnets, Notecards, Giclee Art Prints, and Watercolor Originals.

But I didn't make a single sale. Not even a dollar. And yes I'll be honest, that stung. It hurt my sensitive little heart. It damaged my soul for the rest of the day. I was left disappointed and sad. I am not even going to try to be strong about it. I am not strong as I write this, I am heartbroken. My work is beautiful, it's DAMN BEAUTIFUL and on days that I don't make a single sale at the market, after all the time, energy and money that goes into them, I feel a pit in my stomach that doesn't leave me for days.

I know, I know. Art is not for everyone. And that is what sucks the most when I think about it.

My words today are to give space to the hard days of this journey that leave you empty. Please don't tell me to keep going. I will be doing that anyway, and you will see me smiling and promoting my work at the next market this coming weekend.

I found @inspiredtowrite's words at the end of my day & I felt so seen. It was the mirror I was scared to look into - my heart.

Part 2/3: Surprising a Collector with their favourite flowers 💐

In part 1 of this video I shared with you a back story of this mini floral piece and the reason behind why I'm making it for a very special collector. In this video, I'm going to show you my finishing touches of watercolor that I add to this painting. After this, I take you through my process of using an ink pen to give final touches to this floral piece.

Since these are the collector's favourite flowers, I felt like adding the word "Home" in this painting at the end. As I did this, the painting instantly felt complete and I decided to stop doing anything further.

Part 1/3: Surprising a Collector with their favourite flowers 💐

I have two Northern lights original paintings in my shop and one of them was purchased by a collector some time ago. While answering some of their queries and receiving compliments about my art in the process, I found out that this is going to be the first piece of original art owned by them. In order to make their order more special, I felt like making a painting of their favourite flower, which is forget-me-nots, to go along with the northern lights painting.

I found a simple photograph from one of the royalty-free websites that called out to me and I instantly connected with. It took me a couple of hours to paint this mini painting. Look out for Part 2 on my feed to see the final look of this floral art piece and also the northern lights original that I'll be sending along in this order.

The amount of surprised emojis & statements I have received in the last 24 hours is absolutely insane. Most of you, who are my dear friends, have been told about this in person, and what I understood is that seeing it made it real and unbelievably cool. Well, thank you so much for your appreciation. I'm very grateful. *Bows*

I bought 3 oil pastels for my birthday this year as I felt some weird little attraction to them while I was searching for a birthday present for myself. I only picked them this week, on Tuesday night after laughing my lungs out in the theatre watching Stree 2. Which, is a movie I did not want to go for. To my surprise, I couldn't stop laughing and the release lightened up my soul. I found myself picking up these little coloured sticks at midnight and couldn't stop creating.

I have been painting using the oil pastels for two days and here are the delightful results. I hope you love them as much as I have loved making them with both my hands.

When I started painting in 2020, I felt an intense hatred towards all art I made that wasn't "beautiful" or "perfect" or "aesthetically pleasing" to look at. I wanted to hide it or not have anyone else find it. I was ashamed. After being an artist for more than 4 years now, I have started to look at my Bad Art with a sense of gratitude & a blessing.

Here are some of my realisations:

1. My bad art is my pathway to creating good art. The more I'm painting, the more I'm expanding my creativity, thinking and my vision. My bad art is the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to birthing the Art that I love, that is authentic to me & art I want to share with the world.

2. Being critical of my bad art feels like being critical to the bad parts of myself that I disliked, almost hated and was made to feel ashamed of by others. As I continued to create, the weight of these parts, the shame started to reduce, and I could increase my capacity to hold it. I have felt more open to viewing them as a part of me, and seeing me as a whole person.

3. Giving space to art that I don't like and giving it equal attention as my good art, reduces the internal pressure I carry on myself to PRODUCE art that is visibly "appealing" at all times. Perfection is an idea that causes me to disconnect with my artist self's lived human experience.

4. Being able to view my creative process as a life long journey, made me see it being filled with good, bad and mediocre Art. I cannot just give space to art that is "good". It's inhuman. Again, a life lesson in hiding for me. It's the sum of it all experiences together that makes the whole experience meaningful and not just looking at the parts individually or separately. I gently remind myself of this often.

5. And the BIGGEST lesson that my creativity has taught me is that what's "good" art and what's "bad" art is entirely SUBJECTIVE & PERSONAL. The Art that I, as an Artist feel most connected to, may not be received in the same way by my audience. And what looks "bad" to me, may move another audience member deeply from within. So it's okay to be flexible when it comes to deciding the fortune of my Art and the creative work I produce.

BIG NEWS - This Monday, my original paintings and art prints were welcomed for display at Wild Art Therapy in Halifax.

A bit of back story:
Since March, I have been attempting to connect to stores in and around Halifax/Nova Scotia for my art prints where they could be available to shop locally. I knew this would be challenging in many ways. Plus, I know no one personally who could assist or support me as I navigated this unknown path. I am also not a born local, I am an immigrant which brings along the tag of being "an outsider".

I started to notice the impact of this tag never leaves you. It finds a way to show up in the experiences I have in the city that I'm trying to feel at "home". While I attempted to contact stores on my own, I mostly got "no responses" from the majority of places (it’s okay, I get it, everyone’s busy!). There were a couple of hopeful interactions who asked me to check with them later in the year. A few shops who did respond gave me reasons for not accepting my art (and me) in their store at the moment.

Some of them were:
"they don't quite fit our aesthetic"
"we are not looking for new artists at the moment"
"we are not looking for this type of thing"
"we will pass this time"
"we will not be placing an order with you"

I am very so deeply grateful for their responses. Truly. Communication is so meaningful. It made me feel seen, as opposed to feeling invisible trying to vouch for my Art. I will say that I had to write to many places more than a few times as I was also unsure whether they were even receiving my queries or not. It took me some time to understand that many stores might write back only if they are interested and choose to move forward with my work.

I gave up in July as my heart could not take any more rejections. It was heartbreaking & soul-crushing to sit with my increasing sadness and disappointment. The burden was too heavy to carry and I needed to pause. (Continued in comments)

12 hours of mandala painting in less than 60 seconds! 🌞🌊

I've been painting for the last two days and was able to create a small collection of mandala paintings. As a result, I'm tapped out and my back has given up on me, but by God - my heart and my hands are delighted!

This sudden surge of inspiration was a result of feeling guilty about not painting for the whole month of August.

In an attempt to give space to my life frustrations, I took some very deep breaths and gave into my brush showing me some space for slowing down.

By indulging in this process, I believe I'm able to do something for myself as well as my art, and we both find a purpose along the way.
