this month's recap video took forever to shoot and edit. something in me just doesn't feel comfortable with my voiceover and I keep procrastinating sharing what I feel & think because my belief takes me to "this sounds annoying/noone cares/people won't be listening to this".

I don't want this belief to win because it makes me feel so down and utterly bad about myself.

so I get caught between two parts : the one that wants to say things out loud and the one that wants to hide. it's been paralysing. I'm exhausted.

this past week I fought these two sides everyday and got no work done. all to do lists thrown out the window. emotional breakdowns. lotsa tears. delays. work piled up.

as the season changes and blooms take over, I can't help but feel some parts blooming within me too.

my eyes are locating flowers around me with a speed that my mind can't match. its bizarre because I have never 'liked' flowers in my personal life, and yet, they are making me pause and be present these days.

florals have definitely been a huge part of my creative practice as an artist. they found me, for many reasons. they've stayed in my practice, for many reasons.

I hope finding flowers around me continues to make me appreciate & be present beauty in my life.

🔵SOLD. shruti x shivangi verma studio.

in february, I shared a mini painting I created in my sketchbook (2nd last image on this post) on my stories. I found myself unable to connect with the piece, however, the love that poured in for this mini painting was overwhelming for me to receive. so many of you connected with the painting, for over 48 hours the messages kept pouring in. and then, shruti wrote to me she would want to buy the painting.

as I could not offer my sketchbook art, I offered to make her one, slightly bigger & definitely better. it took a month to create this commission. created on 440 GM of high quality watercolor paper, it has 11 layers of colors. the layers took a very long time to dry fully, as delhi's weather has been more on a cooler side. I had to be very patient with this painting.

this baby has stunned me - while I do not connect with the colors, I am able to appreciate its beauty in all forms. its so gorgeous! so beautiful! the metallic watercolors are such a compliment to the cozy pink coral background. also, let's not forget my artistic skills. there was a time when I believed I can never make one painting more than once. I have clearly moved waaay ahead in my painting skills & improved immensely.

the process of birthing this painting has humbled me. even though its magic was not for me, it managed to reach the person for whom it was meant to be and stay with.

A week in my life, spent painting outside. 🌷🖌️

last few days I've painted outside - in the sun, in the cold, under the shades of trees, staring at the mountains. to say it's been joyful is an understatement.

I think my face tells you everything, my real feelings.

I've not had the chance to paint plein air in a very long time. it was heartwarming to get back to it in nature this past week.

spring was slowly arriving everywhere around me, with splashes of color sprouting among the greens of trees and hills. that inspired me to paint the flowers I saw close to me.

I painted flowers where there were no flowers also.

after adding the paints in my sketchbook outside, I took my art inside where it was quieter to add finishing touches to my art using ink (with my favorite @lamy_india ink pen)

I also painted art from a reference shared with me by my friend @thatkunderagirl.

as I was painting the last flower, I came to a realization that I've gotten way too much invested in flowers (considering I don't pick flowers in my life, flowers keep finding me & following me as an artist) that I have genuinely stopped painting landscapes which were my first love as an artist.

february in the studio.

this month was more about doing the admin work and updating my backend systems, that help me deliver my art to you and the world, and less about creating new art.

I released the full oil pastels still life studies and finally brought to a close for the time being. reading your favorites from my recent post is beautiful.

falling in love with my art after a long, long period of disconnection has been electrifying. it has charged me up and I can't wait to see how the magic unfolds.

january in the studio.

I am struggling making art in a tiny little corner of my bedroom, with no natural light or moving space. my hands refuse to move. they refuse to paint. artificial light is poison to my process. and yet, here I am, feeling grateful for what I have.

I found a way and pushed myself to paint & create art after a really really long time.

I made 13 artworks this month and sold 1 print.

after doing nothing for about 10 months, this feels like I won 14 times. I'm so proud!

I made 45 mini paintings for a therapist in private practice.
here's the story about my most cherished collaboration (swipe to read).

I AM SO PROUD OF THIS BODY OF WORK.
as an artist, I want my art to be able to move & shift something in people. as a therapist, I know how valuable and impactful the right words feel like to a reader when going through a rough time.

THIS HAS BEEN MY MOST BEAUTIFUL PERSONALIZED PROJECT, so much so, that I may never really know the true impact of my art & my words when experienced side-by-side. this is the first time I chose to release them together, feeling afraid, nervous and jittery. I won't ever know my collectors who find these 45 mini paintings + my poetry. I can't help but see how beautiful it feels to hold this "unknown" experience.

about my (unreleased) words:
I have two collections of poems and quotes - birthed in 2022, and in 2023. however, I felt very afraid of putting them out into the world. I was not able to talk about them. I kept them hidden, and spent time with them often by myself. both these collections were created during very uncertain and severely painful times in my life. creating them helped me keep my head above the water and find a way to hold onto hope, even though I didn't see it or feel it.

after including them in this commissioned project, I am feeling slightly comfortable with releasing them into the world.

in part 3 of the behind the scenes, you see me create a collection of 16 miniature loose watercolor landscapes in a span of a single day, actually just a few hours.

I was hesitant at first to show this process video, because it is shot at night under my yellow light lamp + it's not aesthetic enough + the water is reflecting back and it's harder to see the colors clearly + it isn't beautiful to watch or isn't "perfect" for social media aesthetics.

And then I paused, took a step back and reflected on why it's important for me to share this process. It's to show my audience the rawness & realness of the creative process. Sometimes that takes place in near perfect, good enough scenes, and sometimes it takes place deep into the night silences.

Both are beautiful, as both are spaces created for the heart work to come alive.

I tried to use some inspiration from photographs for this collection, however, I ended up ignoring that and just flowed with my paintbrush. I came to notice I didn't really need to be "inspired".

I only needed to find a way to stay with what's coming alive with my brush.

My first market of 2025 & my last market in Halifax.

It was a very slow Sunday for me. 5 hours and less than 5 people stopped at my table. I made one sale at this market. I felt quite disappointed at the turnout and it wasn't easy to just wait for most of the market hoping for people to stop and see my work.

Despite being such a big market happening in a mall, it surprises me how some markets turn out exactly the opposite of what I hope they'll be. It really helped having @nrajat and @paras.kumarr there towards the end of the market.

The people who did stop by and browsed my work had the sweetest things to say about my art. I felt touched and moved that they connected with my paintings.

I applied to be part of many markets between January and March, but I got into none this time. It has been very hard. And I kept thinking, at the end of the day, we get what is ours and we find space in places which are meant for us. This somewhere gave hope to the disappointment I have been carrying and made me feel better.

The seasons are changing, and so are my rhythms. I can feel a shift coming in. I can feel the spring springing in my body, as the uncertainty looms over me. It's a gift and a split to be able to feel and carry such polar feelings within me. And yet, they both exist. They both are alive and very much present.

My Art may be shifting too. I'm excited to find out. Are you excited for me?

"your paintings look like british columbia" 🏞️🌲🌄

a lot of people who met me in art markets last year, told me this. some even bought my art because of this reason. so, earlier this month, when I finally got a chance to visit BC, I did something I have never done before.

I took a small risk, because I wanted to leave a physical mark on the landscape of BC. it was a thankyou of some sorts, since I had been painting this landscape for the past 5 years already. a voice inside told me this would become a significant memory.

I selected nine paintings and left them all around BC and vancouver. just left them in places that met me, for people to find, for strangers to find some beauty as they moved through their day .. just like that. I left the paintings in many places. I was able to take a photo of all before leaving them, except one, which I had to drop and run so no one comes to give it back to me. that one was my most favourite painting. there's a story with that painting. I will share with you soon :)

two people got in touch with me and shared they found my art.
did rest of the seven paintings find people, or did they pass away? got damaged? are still in hiding? maybe someone threw/tore them? I do not know. I may find out later, it would be wonderful to know their fate. if I never find out, and people never find them, I will hold the loss of never knowing. and that's okay :)

doing this exercise gave me an exciting, stirring feeling all over my body. it gave me a significant memory of meeting my paintings in person through the landscape of british columbia, and I am so so grateful for that! I hope to meet it again one day, to touch the landscape one more time, and to feel it's beauty running through me again.

I am delighted to share that I am going to be part of the Hello Spring Market this month.

I will be there with my stock of original paintings of various sizes (mandalas, halifax-inspired landscapes & florals) and my limited edition stack of giclee art prints.

If you are around, I'd love for you to meet my Art in person (and meee!).
I promise that my Art will greet you very gently and lovingly, and share it's softness should you choose to take it home.

I applied to be part of many markets between January and March, but I got into none this time. It was very disappointing. And I kept thinking, at the end of the day, we get what is ours and we find space in places which are meant for us. This somewhere gave hope to the disappointment I have been carrying and made me feel better.

The seasons are changing, and so are my rhythms. I can feel a shift coming in. I can feel the spring springing in my body, as the uncertainty looms over me. It's a gift and a split to be able to feel and carry such polar feelings within me. And yet, they both exist. They both are alive and very much present.

My Art may be shifting too. I'm excited to find out. Are you excited for me?
